Black Lotus Yoga
Black Lotus Yoga is a brand new Vinyasa system, created by Ty Landrum, a fantastic teacher and long term student of Ashtanga. The Black Lotus Yoga system definitely has its roots in Ashtanga, as a linage, but came about as a means for more open and creative exploration and a pathway for a more compassionate practice.
What makes Black Lotus Yoga unique?
The system has a foundations sequence There are six series within the system. Each complete with a standing sequence, a series of seated postures, hip openers, arm balances, backbends and finishing postures. What’s more is that each series has a white, grey and black variant. Which means that practitioners are invited to explore any of the variants by itself or play with mixing and matching postures and modifications from all three variants within a series.

Black Lotus Yoga goes beyond asana
As a practitioner of yoga, the seeking of meaning beyond asana is inevitable. While this system and its sequencing are beautiful and challenging in its physicality, Black Lotus has offerings to satisfy the desire to go beyond the physical. Pranayama, chanting and philosophy are all deeply intwined within the offering. A deep understanding of the breath, how to work with it, to help channel all that lives in the subconcious mind, into the light of conciousness and compassion of the heart, is vital. Black Lotus lays the physical practice on the philosophy of the Vayus, and everything from stability and strength as well as alignment in physical postures
uses these principles. Chanting as a practice is encouraged to add meaning and purpose to the practice, as well as a gateway for deeper contemplation.

Who is this practice for?
Anyone who wants to explore a physical practice full of potential to take you deeper on the path of self exploration.

Is it necessary to have an Ashtanga background to practice Black Lotus Yoga?
While a practice of asana would be useful, no experience with Ashtanga or asana is necessary to get started on the journey. Come join the Black Lotus Foundations class and start getting familiar with the sequence in a led class.
